Flora of Virginia Project 2006-2011
We were delighted to contribute significantly to the publication of the first Flora for the Commonwealth of Virginia in over 200 years. The Flora of Virginia was published in 2012 and is now in its second printing.
- Herbarium research - The Flora required refining of more than 3200 species descriptions to accurately reflect the morphological tendencies of Virginia's plants. We provided almost all of the herbarium research, meticulously measuring and microscopically examining every relevant aspect of each species for which vouchers were available.
- Editing - Specific and Generic descriptions were edited to ensure scientific and terminological accuracy.
- Field Work - Specimens were collected across Virginia to provide living models for illustrators.
- Scientific Illustrations - Michael Terry illustrated the graminoids for the publication.
