The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Virginia Field Office maintains a list of approved surveyors for federally listed rare plant and animal species to aid organizations in finding qualified personnel for their projects. Michael Terry is on the list of approved surveyors for four plant species: Smooth Coneflower (Echinacea laevigata), Virginia Sneezeweed (Helenium virginicum), Swamp Pink (Helonias bullata), and Small-whorled Pogonia (Isotria medeoloides). We are familiar with these and other rare species as well as likely habitats. In 2009, Mr. Terry found a new population of I. medeoloides in Prince William County.
